Leather-Handle-Totes-Heading-2

Leather-Handle-detail-aMy newest bag design, these totes are not only beautiful, but they are extremely practical! I start by dyeing individual pieces of heavy linen so that each bag exterior is constructed from one unique piece of fabric. I then fuse first a woven interfacing then fleece/batting to the wrong side of the fabric before then quilting it, adding a few fun bird appliques and stitching them with my unique Free Motion Machine Sketching type of quilting. I had a lot of fun designing these bags, I really like working with the leather; this particular leather I found has a lovely feel with plenty of heft but not too stiff, and the visual texture is reminiscent of the what I get while dyeing my fabric, a win win!

Right now I’m making bags using my “Autumn Splendor” color palette, as well as the vat dye Indigo, for two completely different looks.

Inside the bags are colorful linings that coordinate with the exterior. There is a large pocket that is sized to hold an iPad or sketchbook, 2 cell phone sized pockets, a key leash, an insert that stiffens the bottom of the bag and it closes with a magnetic snap. I add leather handles for sturdy and very comfortable carrying. The bag is 12″ tall x 14″ wide x 5” deep and the handle has a 12” drop.
